truth · love · reality

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 02, 2008:

.........What is the difference between truth and fact? Is there a difference between something factual and something true? If so, what? How do you decide whether or not something is true?

[ perceptive symmetry ]

A fact is often proven in scientific ways and or based on empiric 'evidence'. It seems
that my mind has been taught that a fact can sometimes be what the larger part of
a group does & believes in. In that sense, a fact can be percieved as the truth.

When based on what my mind percieves, I can never know for sure what truth is.
I can inquire into mine and others truth with a curious, open mind and when
witnessing this process, it is my truth that I can get ever so close to what
is real. All perception is projection so truth is individual & no absolute.

Change is the reality no matter what I percieve in any given moment.
What's in my heart feels true and real and still changes influenced
by my perception, degrees of attachment and of openness.
Love in itself however, does not change. Love is real.

In this sense I see no difference between truth & fact.

Mew - Symmetry

there is nothing that isn't true if you believe it
and nothing is true, believe it or not.

perception is projection–YES , so simple!–like Byron Katie sez…”but only 100%” :-D

(my life-line when floundering or distracted….)

Well, Byron Katie's work on projections has it's roots in nlp. John Grinder & Richard Bandler who came up with this brilliant psychological communication tool back in the 70's, stated all perception is projection as one of the nlp prerequisites. That said, Byron Katies work & esp workshop methods (the 4 questions) to inquire into & understand this prerequisite of how the brain operates,  are imo absolutely brilliant in all their sophisitcated simplicity.

I have yet to find a better coaching tool when it comes to guiding another towards owning their feelings & understanding that this is the very basis for clear & creative communication between humans.. ok, better stop now before I get carried away tsk.

I added a byron quote up top.. & here's a  few fav's of mine:

love what is.
byron katie

And I recall this one to also be a fav of victoria's:

As long as we're at war with our own minds, we are at war with the world and with the whole human race. Because as long as we want to get rid of our thoughts, anyone that we meet is likely to become an enemy. There is only one mind, and people are going to tell us what we haven't dealt with yet in their own thinking. You're fat. You're stupid. You're not good enough.'

If you are an enemy to your own mind, other people have to become enemies too, sooner or later. Until you understand, until you can love the thoughts that appear in your mind, then you can love the rest of us. You work with the projector  -the mind - not the projected world.  I can't really love you until I question the mind that thinks it sees you outside itself …

I think facts are always true but truth isn't always wrapped up in facts. Truth is the bigger category.

And I think nlp is very seductive and once you have a grasp of it it's almost impossible to use language without that element of manipulation.  I watch political speeches with a background analysis running on how skillful they are with manipulative language, and I applaud them for doing it well. But I'd rather they read poetry, really…

Jeannie, your last line just made my tail curl up with delight. I think our world would be quite a different one if based on understanding gained from reading poetry. And yes, I so agree with your thoughts on nlp. It is a powerful tool & demands a high level of integrity when making use of it. Which of course is not the case in many cases.

Fortunately it does take a certain amount of intellect to learn how to do it properly & dare I postulate, therefore not applicable to quite a few on the political scene..

I recall the high emphasis on using nlp for positive manipulation only when training for my master & at the same time observing the teacher using subliminal trance language to confuse a student when put on the spot. so much for ethics.

I had a very similar experience with an instructor manipulating students, not productively, but (as far as I could tell) just for personal pleasure. It was kind of entertaining to watch in that way that makes you feel horrible about yourself for watching the video of the some disaster just one more time.

tsk. the teacher I mentioned was videotaped as was custom to do with guest teachers where I trained & luckily it was pos to confront him with the stunt he pulled..talking about manipulators, I spotted this vid on soul's blog..

Thanks for that link Tara - I adore Derren Brown. I left a comment there too which is basically that as a form of entertainment I think what he does is fascinating. He had a show here last season called Mind Control and I was totally transfixed. It isn't just nlp that he uses but all sorts of psychological illusions. He has a show now called Trick or Treat but it isn't being broadcast here in the states. You can see all the episodes online though - I love his technique for card counting in particular, it's brilliant.

Yes, Derren Brown is quite unique & I've watched the mind control series on tv too. I believe he is a illusionist as well & you're right his tricks are certainly not defined to subliminal trance language & nlp, only some of is disclosed on tv i.e the example over on soul's blog. He uses hypnosis & is able to put a person back in trance with a touch. We don't excactly get to see what goes down the first he meets his guinea pigs..

Thank you for the link, I'm surely gonna treat myself myself to some more of Derren's tricks.
